Trust – LeaderSkilz

There’s a considerable body of literature arguing for the importance of trust in leadership. In this video from the LeaderSkilz series, Bryson Moore and the people at Soderquist demonstrate how NOT to build trust in followers.

  1. ahh the trust fall. the go-to for ironic team building and leadership activities.
Perhaps these people should have just shown their staff a 80 slide power point on trust culture, or just made a mission statement of “trust values”

Trust is not established through falling, trust comes from trusting people and they get things done.
A leaders must be mindful of the peoples ability to work within time frames and the amount of work they can handle.
This video shows the killer of all leadership – LACK OF FOLLOW UP?.
The guy was assigned the reports and there was obviously no follow up until it was too late.

Trust falls be dammed! Forced trust is not trust.
    thank you for sharing.

  2. You said it. One of the ironic things about this video series is that the boss (bald guy) is always trying a new thing. A hyperbole but still representative of many executives today. If only he’d stick to one thing, it might have time to stick on others.

  3. What a drag to work for the bald guy!

One of the most common statements I hear about trust as it relates to leadership is that you can’t inspire change without a platform for change, i.e. strong relationships of trust. I think we all agree, trust is important (especially knowing change is becoming more and more necessary). But the challenge is knowing how to build trust.

Michael, you said it–”forced trust is not trust!” Recommendation number one: be trustworthy.

Check out our other videos online at soderquist.org/leaderskilz and throw some more awful, great ideas!
