A Tale of Two Cultures – New JVBL Article

Yesterday I received word that the latest issue of the Journal of Values-Based Leadership is online and available for viewing. It includes my article “A Tale of Two Cultures: Why Culture Trumps Core Values in Building Ethical Organizations.”

The article examines the relationship between culture and ethics by comparing two organizations, Enron and Zappos. Admittedly, it is an unfair comparison. However the examination yields interesting insights: leaders can talk a good game about being ethical, and even have elaborate ethical standards and practices written out but, ultimately, it’s the culture of the organization that plays a large part of keeping an organization ethical.

The JVBL is an open-access scholarly journal published by Elisabeth Gingerich and the folks at Valparasio University. Their missions is to promote ethical and moral leadership and behavior by serving as a forum for ideas and the sharing of “best practices.”
