You may have noticed that there is no video posted today. This is because our next issue of LeaderLab Quarterly is being released tomorrow. As a special preview, we’ve decided to release the Letter From the Editor to give a summary of the great articles included. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the full issue of LeaderLab Quarterly.

Repeat Performance

In the theater business, there’s a concept called “second night syndrome.” Opening night of any show is always charged with emotion and nervous tension. After a successful first show, there’s a tendency to sit back, relax and release all that pent up tension. Unfortunately, this can sometimes make for a poor show the second night.

As we began editing this issue of LeaderLab Quarterly, I started to grow worried about experiencing the same thing with our second performance. I quickly realized this would not be the case. Our feature article this issue brings organizational theories to the silver screen as Michael Petty uses the Rocky saga to teach theory in “Organizational Change: lessons from Rocky Balboa.”

We also focus on matters of the heart this issue, with an article from Eddy Shigley on the importance of integrity in leadership. Lakeisha McKnight debuts in this issue with a preview of “The Future of Doing Good” by outlining five trends nonprofit leaders need to be aware of. We end with an article from Angelia Arrington on the leadership theory and the heart of the leader.

While it may be tempting to relax and enjoy the success of our first issue, LeaderLab Quarterly is instead putting every bit of energy into our sophomore effort. We hope you continue to enjoy the offerings from LeaderLab.

Lead Smart,

Inclusion in the DOAJ will allow researchers easy access to LLQ through database searches. You can find LLQ articles in the DOAJ here.
About LeaderLab Quarterly

LeaderLab Quarterly is an online journal that features articles focused on the practice of theory. New issues are published in the Spring (March), Summer (June), Fall (September) and Winter (December). We welcome submissions from new and established authors.

About the DOAJ

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) lists open access journals, that is, scientific and scholarly journals that meet high quality standards by exercising peer review or editorial quality control and are free to all from the time of publication based on the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access. Because open access is a worldwide phenomenon, DOAJ includes publications from around the world in many languages. It is possible to browse through the journals, or search for articles within many of the journals through a web interface. In May 2009, the database contained 4177 journals, of which 1531 were searchable at article level. The aim of DOAJ is to “increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact.”
